We caught Mr. Charles on the way out of the hospital. He doesn’t just come here for an exam, but every Friday, he’s on duty, as he says, on his own. He serves the immobile patients a holy reception and previously visits the care facility on Piarist Street.

I’m going to bring them the sacrament, and I’m going to talk to these people for a moment so that they can feel someone interested in them.

He feels the same way about his hospital visits. Staff is scarce and busy with medical care for patients.

Oftentimes those patients wait on the bed to be called to eternity. When someone is there, though smiles, strokes them, it is as if the king is with them, although I am merely a man,’ confesses Mr. Charles. He adds that he has tried such care by caring for his parents. He says that those who have not experienced it are hard to realize how important their presence is to these people. Someone they know who they’re important to and seen for. For believers, the sacrament is also a boost to the soul and body.

I do it as a volunteer with love. These people have different fates in life, but they have also contributed to having what we have,” he said. He added that he felt extremely good when people felt comfortable during his visit, even happy. Many of them are visited by relatives once a year, and he tries to walk every week at least once when not more often.

If you can make someone happy, it is a huge happiness that you can experience every day. Daily!

Mr. Charles is alone over 70. Before retirement, he worked as an electrical engineer and was the head of an assembly group that installed information systems in hydroelectric plants. Today he works with much stronger energy.
