We had a former kindergarten director on the nomination letter for the third time. The first agreed visit was first cancelled with no participation in a similar event. She was an alternate on the second nomination letter, so she did not get on. We heard many times about her from different mouths, and they were always words of praise. When our only suggestion was given to us by nurse Joseph, we were not entirely thrilled. What if he sends us back to the grove? But Joseph was relentless, answering the phone and calling Mrs. Eve. While he was arranging a visit, we admired his stylish garden furniture. Mosaic. Even Eva’s third nomination was such a mosaic of pieces of information about her. Finally, we managed to unload it.
Eve, as Joseph addressed her in a letter, invited us home, and together with her husband and son, they kept us company for half an hour. In my heart, I wondered what had first happened, and we were first rejected by this dear and self – sacrificing woman.
Eva is more than a respected educator. She was a pre-school child, pioneering the idea of integrating healthy and disabled children in Trencin. It was she who founded an integrated kindergarten in Orechove, the outskirts of Trencin, which was originally intended for children with disabilities. It didn’t take long for the parents to sign up to it and healthy children, naturally creating an environment of inclusion and integration. Simply a space where disadvantaged children felt the acceptance of their surroundings, and healthy ones perceived them as equal friends. The environment itself built mutual respect, friendship, and empathy.
If it is true that everything essential to life will be learned in kindergarten, it has been done right here on several fronts, because the kindergarten has formed not only children, but also parents and countless educators, whose enthusiasm for non-conform teacher inspired and motivated them.
The sad paradox is that professional management bodies, which could have made her proud, rather put their logs under her feet. In the second half of the 1980s, integrated nursery was something unprecedented, for which they did not even have a methodology. Later, merchants were interested in the parcel where the nursery was located, so they started going anonymously to the principal that the nursery did not comply with hygiene standards. Director Balluchová and kindergarten have now made their way to the sun and the nursery still works today. Her founder is reminded of the inconspicuous wooden table at the entrance.
Eva’s retired today, but she says she wouldn’t hesitate to go back to the children in kindergarten. Especially those that are for any reason excluded from majority society. If they set up a kindergarten for Roma children, I wouldn’t hesitate for a moment,’ she said.
