Igor Mosný

Many people work with the Civic Association of the Merry Goldens to cultivate the life of the local community. Among them also famous artist Igor Mosný. He was involved in the renovation of the cross, which dominates the center of Goldbread. His domain is sculptural creation and drawing. He casts statues into bronze, he cuts them into stone, as the material also uses wood, he works with ceramics. The materials combine and create unique works that you can find in exteriors and interiors. You can meet with his work abroad and in Slovak cities. Several dozen works can be found in Trenčín and its surroundings, such as a monument to the victims of world wars in Trenčianske Stankovce or a popular fountain in the center of Trenčín, which the general public knows as the leader of Valentine’s Day.

Igor lives and works in the town district of Zlatovce, and my wife and I were invited to coffee. He’s a sculptor, she’s a graphic artist. Where the eye supervises are sculptures of various materials, sketches, working tools, larger or smaller works of art, sculptures and paintings. Igor will take us to the workshop and show just the work done. The work of the sculptor is a combination of pragmatism and spirituality. The visual image shall be supported by knowledge of the technical possibilities of the materials used.

The quality statue is created when the material can vibrate spiritual energy when it is in balance. That’s what the family and Michelangelo statues have. Fifty to fifty.

Igor shows us among the many sculptures one called the Great Son of a small nation. Its center is a card with portrait of M. R. Štefánik and graphics of his mohyla on Bradle.

The card is from 1965, and my wife’s grandmother had it suspended above the door, and she explains the context of the sculptor and adds that she likes to use objects found in sculptures in new contexts and gives them a new life.

The lady of the house who worked in the Gallery of M. A. Bazovsky for years will join the interview. In the garden we admire her ceramic sculptures. Appreciation for her husband pleased her. According to her words, home artists are often neglected and deserve more attention and opportunities, perhaps even within Trenčín 2026 projects.

Igor Mighty went through a world with his sculptures. He had the opportunity to perceive the position of art in different cultures, so we ask how he perceives man and his need for art.

I seek humanity in man. You know, we don’t all live here for ourselves, but for each other, so we can leave something behind. Otherwise, there’s no point. The entire existence of mankind is tiny in relation to the universe.

We have a thousand questions, but our job is to appreciate the artist, explain to him the nature of the project with which we visited him and ask him to appreciate someone else. After all, we are not going far, just across the street to Igor’s fellow pilgrim and student friend.
